DRFCFor several years we have given financial support as well as providing and serving lunch to all the participants and their families during Blue-Gold Football Game Media Day. DFRC Hand-in-Hand Program pairs one or more senior participants with a Buddy, a child or young adult between the ages of 4 and 18, who has an intellectual disability. Throughout the year the Seniors and their Buddies participate in activities together. The goal of these activities is help to build a bond between the Buddy and the high school participants and gain valuable lessons of diversity, awareness, and acceptance. The Hand-in-Hand Program is the heart of the Blue-Gold experience.

Flags For HeroesWe started our Flags for Heroes program in 2015. Each year people sponsor a flag for their hero and our club displays them during the week leading up to Memorial Day at the Newark Municipal Building. Each year the display grows! Through the donation of flag sponsors all the money raised goes back into the community. The money raised from our program has been donated to different groups from the Home of the Brave transitional housing to the Aetna Hook & Ladder. This year we donated to the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund.

Adopt-A-StudentIn 2017 Newark Rotary started collecting enough school supplies to pack 50 book bags with supplies for students ranging from K - 8th Grade. This has become an annual project for our club.
Through the Adopt-A-Student program run by Adopt-A-Family Delaware, school supplies are provided to school children. Examples of school supplies donated include 3-ring binders, large backpacks without wheels, combination locks, computer flash drives, dictionaries, thesauruses, composition books, notebooks, filler paper, pens, pencils, calculators, and other supplies. Our goal of this program is to increase and encourage a positive attitude towards school and to take away some of the stress parents and low-income families encounter when they prepare children for a successful school year. |
